How long after you were engaged did you get married?
We got engaged and planned a wedding all within a year!
(PS.: attention to details: look at these cute Starbucks cups ~Daysy)
Top 3 planning tips for future couples:
- Create a separate wedding email address to organize all the event and vendor emails
- Start early! The more you get done at the beginning, the less stress you’ll have near the big day and you’ll enjoy that time so much more!
- Visit wedding and bridal shows! You can win some great stuff, get ideas and you never know who you’ll meet! 🙂
Tell us about your wedding day fashions.
Jason’s uncle designed and tailored his and the groomsmen’s suits. They traveled from Dubai to Uganda and finally to Baltimore!
Based on our wedding planning experiences, what advice would you give people who are still planning their wedding?
Have fun doing it! Work together and don’t treat your to-do list as a chore.
Where did you have your wedding? Why did you choose the location?
Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa. We knew we wanted to be on the water and also have the ceremony, reception, and hotel all in one place since we had people traveling from all over!
What adjective best describes your spouse on your wedding day?
Him: She was beautiful! | Her: Calm and so handsome!
The Best Thing about the day:
Everything!! The day flowed so perfectly, I cannot think of one thing that we would have changed!
What are your honeymoon plans?
We are off to Florida in February. Beach time and scuba diving!
What was your color palette and wedding style? What inspired it? Tell us about the flowers, stationery, and decor you chose.
Our color palette was burgundy and navy. We felt it would go well with the season and the atmosphere at the resort. Our flowers were a mix of roses (blushes and creams and oranges) as well as Protea we had special ordered – the national flower of South Africa!
How would you describe the style of your wedding?
Classic. We incorporated some contemporary style of geometric shapes with classic colors and florals. We also worked in some hints of Jason’s South African home!
What moment of your wedding day did you get anxious the most?
We were nervous it was going to rain. The morning was wet and cloudy. I hosted a “Bride 5k” and ran in the morning with about 10 guests. The weather was a little gloomy, but by mid-day, the gloom disappeared and we had the most incredible sky!
Which element(s) of your day best reflect you as a couple? What did you do to make guests feel special?
What was the most fun detail of your wedding to plan? We kept the seating chart a secret for months. We knew that a good amount of our friends would love that we incorporated a piece of our social life with them into the big day. The chart was a look-a-like of plaques used at our favorite local pub to indicate people in a 100 beer club. This is also the place we got engaged!
What was the most difficult detail of your wedding to agree upon?
We had it pretty easy and agreed along the way!
Tell us about your cocktail hour and reception! What was on the menu? Did you have any special entertainment?
We had passed hors-d’oeuvres at the cocktail hour and transitioned to the reception. Dinner was a choice of filet & crabcake or a stuffed herb chicken.
Describe any personal or special touches that helped make your wedding memorable.
Jason 3D printed our table placeholders. They were gold geometric African animals and blended perfectly into the decor. We also created a seating chart that mimicked the plaques found at our favorite pub.
Who caught the bridal bouquet?
My cousin’s fiance! They got married 2 weeks after us.
Who decided on the wedding song for walking down the aisle and why?
We kept it traditional and just walked to the Wedding March.
What is the best thing that happened?
The best thing is that we got married! It was truly a perfect day!
We also served a signature drink named after our cat, Camden.
Our DJ was amazing and kept the dance floor full all night! (I have to put my 2 cents here, to add to Casi’s. Crow Entertainment with DJ Brian was phenomenal!!! Even to our team. Nothing but the best to say about them! ~Daysy)
How did you feel when the wedding planning was all over?
The first free weekend feels almost weird…you have so much free time.
