Shadan and Mahmood had been engaged for 3 years, before their big day. It finally came when they were able to reunite family from all over the country and overseas! They chose their dream location to be Top of the Town, in the DC area for their reception! Their winter wedding was very cozy and filled with cute details, including delicious Iraqui food!!! But most importantly, it was a dream come true for these two sweethearts and their families combined! How long after you were engaged did you get married?
What was the most difficult detail of your wedding to agree upon?
Finding the hotel to stay at after the wedding. We were grateful to find a hotel near the venue to get my wedding makeup done at and to stay for a few days with my husband. This was due to the fact the my wedding was near the Holidays time, so almost everything was booked.
Top 3 planning tips for future couples:
1.Plan ahead of time! ( at least six months)
2. Keep it simple! Simple= Elegance
3. Practice the first dance!
Based on our wedding planning experiences, what advice would you give people who are still planning their wedding?
Relax and work hard for great results.
Did you have a first look before your reception? If yes, how can you describe that moment?
Yes, we did! My heart started beating so fast as I saw my husband from far. I was trying to not let him see me by hiding behind the car. I wanted to surprise him.
What adjective best describes your spouse on your wedding day?
He was handsome.
The Best Thing about the day:
The heavy rain stopped for one hour during the day time, which was great because we were taking pictures during that time
How would you describe the style of your wedding?
Where did you have your wedding? Why did you choose the location?
Top of the Town. Because it is an amazing place during night time. Also, there is a roof and windows. The location is just amazing in between Washington, D.C. and Arlington, VA. It was the place of my dreams. I have always wanted to have a wedding in a place like the Top of the Town. I guess my dream came true.
Describe any personal or special touches that helped make Your Wedding Memorable.:
The view was spectacular! Especially during the night time of the event.
What are your honeymoon plans?
Our honeymoon plans is going to Cancun, Mexico. The weather is great over there around this time of the year.
Tell us about your wedding day fashions.
Traditional wedding fashion
What was your color palette and wedding style? What inspired it? Tell us about the flowers, stationery and decor you chose.
The colors were mainly white and silver. My wedding style was classic/ Vintage. This theme was inspired by the place, my wedding gown, and my wedding band. The flowers, on the other hand, were lavender and white. The lavender was a calming color for us, for our family, and our wonderful guests.
Which element(s) of your day best reflect you as a couple?
The classic/ vintage theme of the wedding reflected us as a couple, The music that were playing by the DJ and The traditional Iraqi food
Tell us about your cocktail hour and reception! What was on the menu?
We had drinks including alcohol and sodas. No children were allowed in the wedding, so people were able to drink and the wedding bar was opened through the whole wedding ceremony. We also had open buffet dinner( traditional Iraqi food), and dessert later( wedding cake and baklava)
What was the most fun detail of your wedding to plan?
The most fun detail of the wedding is to plan was my bouquet. It was beautifully done as I expected it to be.
Who caught the bridal bouquet?
Unfortunately, I did not throw my bouquet. I forgot. LOL. I was busy dancing the whole night!
What moment of your wedding day did you get anxious the most?
I felt anxious before the ceremony, so I stayed in a room to calm down until my husband came to me and walked me to the ceremony when all the guests arrived.
Did you have any special entertainment?
We had the DJ entertainment including music and lights.
Who decided on the wedding song for walking down the aisle and why?
I decided on the song. Because of the music, the singer, and the words matched my classic wedding.
What is the worst thing that happened on your wedding day, and the best thing that happened?
The worst thing was that I cried after my makeup was done and was ready three hours before the ceremony. This happened because I got so stressed. The best thing was when I was dancing with my husband, our families, and friends. We were having a great time.
What did you do to make guests feel special?
We made our guests feel special in a variety of ways including making them feel more than welcome to walk to the roof of the Top of The Town to witness the amazing view of Washington, D.C. at night. This way, they can have small talks away from the music.
How did you feel when the wedding planning was all over?
I felt so relieved! A little stressed before the ceremony for a few hours, but after the ceremony, I was looking at the results and thought: Wow! It is my big day! Everything looks great! I am so happy. Everyone around me seems happy. I will never forget how grateful and amazing felt when I was walking into the venue with my husband!
After the day has passed, would you have anything you have done differently?
No, I would not. This wedding was a dream comes true.
