They got engaged in the Autumn of 2016 and married just over 2 years later in this beautiful wedding ceremony at the St. Columbia Church with a reception at the Mount Vernon Country Club.

You could tell how special this day was to Jhoann and Anh, as well as their families.  They are very dedicated to their faith and family and wanted their wedding day to reflect that, making family a big part of the proceedings.  Jhoann and Anh even had special dances for family and joyous and loving atmosphere provided everyone with a beautiful day that they will never forget. #OnTheNguyensOfLove

Top 3 tips for couples planning a wedding

  1. Research vendors and listen to reviews.
  2. Get a Cricut. I was able to DIY a lot of the decorations for the wedding and my MOH used it for my bachelorette trip and bridal shower.
  3. The week before the wedding gets very hectic so make a list and a stick to it.

Based on our wedding planning experiences, what advice would you give people who are still planning their wedding?

Have fun. The whole experience is meant for you and your future spouse to join your lives together. Put yourselves first and have fun while you plan.

Tell us about your wedding day fashions.

Jhoann wore a dress designed by Morilee that had a long train and a beautiful open back. Her bridesmaids all chose a different style dress in the same maroon color. The groomsmen wore navy blue suits with floral maroon ties. Anh wore a navy blue suit from Suit Supply and a bow tie to match his groomsmen ties.

What moment of your wedding day did you get anxious the most?

The timeline and making sure we were running on time for everything. The day went by so fast. One moment was getting my makeup done and the next I was walking down the aisle. Everything was timed so that we couldn’t run late, knowing that really made me anxious.

Did you have a first look before the ceremony? If yes, how can you describe that moment?

No, we had a first touch. We wanted to stay traditional and not have a first look so we opted for a first touch where we held hands and shared a prayer before the groom left for the church.

What was the most fun detail of your wedding to plan?

The most fun detail for Jhoann to plan was the wedding dress. It was exciting to see all the dresses and have this surprise element for Anh. Just anticipating his reaction to seeing me walk down the aisle was fun.

Who decided on the wedding song for walking down the aisle and why?

Jhoann, she was given a selection from the music director at the church. The song was the most traditional and it only felt right since her niece had been telling her to walk down the aisle to that song since Anh and Jhoann got engaged.

Which element(s) of your day best reflected you as a couple? What did you do to make guests feel special?

The ceremony reflected our dedication to our faith and family. We are both very dedicated to our families and having them be such a big part of our wedding day was really reflective of how important they our in our lives. To make our guest feel special we had a lot of different activities for them like the fun booth, some of the dances, and even our guestbook which was jenga pieces that they could sign and leave us messages.

The Best Thing about the day:

The moment when we exchanged rings.

Where did you have your wedding? Why did you choose the location?

Our wedding ceremony took place at Jhoann’s church. She grew up and went to school at this very church. It was so special to start the next chapter of our lives together at St. Columba Church. Our wedding reception took place at Mount Vernon Country Club. We just love the open floor plan and the natural lighting that the venue offered for our large guest list.

Tell us about your cocktail hour and reception! What was on the menu? Did you have any special entertainment?

Since our wedding was in November we didn’t know if we would get a warm day or a chilly day so we had the option of either having the cocktail hour outside or inside. The weekend before the wedding the weather was beautiful but a couple days before a cold front hit so we had an indoor cocktail hour in the main room where the reception took place. Not a tradition way to have a cocktail hour but the guests enjoyed being able to really settle in and enjoy the hors-d’oeuvres before the bridal party arrived. For dinner, we started with a Caesar salad but not just any Caesar salad, it was presented in a cheese bowl. To this day our MOH still talks about how good that cheese bowl was. The main course was a selection of either the New York strip or chicken princess, which was chicken stuffed with crab. The entrees were each either Anh’s favorite or Jhoann’s favorite dish.

Describe any personal or special touches that helped make Your Wedding Memorable.:

Our entrance to the reception was the handshake in the movie Parent Trap.

What was the most difficult detail of your wedding to agree upon?

It took us a while to find the venue. Anh really wanted natural lighting in the space but we had such a large guest list that it was really hard to find a space like that, which could hold 200 people.

How did you feel when the wedding planning was all over?

Relieved, it was so nice to have my afternoons back. About a month and a half before the wedding every afternoon, not working, was spent researching, doing DIY projects, and planning with vendors.

Tell us about the flowers, stationery and decor you chose.

All the flowers, stationary, and decor for the most part was DIY. The flowers and the floral for the center pieces were all crafted by the bride and her bridesmaids. This was the first time any one of them had attempted a floral project but with the help of Pinterest they all turned out beautiful. The stationary were also DIY projects. Jhoann designed the save the dates and ordered them as magnets, the invitations were designed through Shutterfly and the calligraphy was done by her MOH, and the wedding reception programs were bought as a template from Etsy. All the signs at the wedding were a Cricut project. Jhoann used their design space to design all the signs and even the banner hanging at the sweetheart table.

What is the worst thing that happened on your wedding day, and the best thing that happened?

I think the worst thing to happen on our wedding day was that we planned on getting pictures taken at the MGM after the ceremony. However, we didn’t know that professional photograph wasn’t allowed at the site. So we had to change our plans last minute but we got beautiful outdoor pictures (in the 40 degree weather) with the wedding party.

The best thing that happened on our wedding day was that we nailed our entrance. We were really nervous about how the handshake would go down and the timing of the music but the execution was perfect.

After the day has passed, would you have anything you have done differently?

I would have planned to have the after ceremony pictures done at a different location. We really ate up a lot of time traveling to two locations and it was so cold outside when we went to the outdoor location.

What was your color palette and wedding style? What inspired it?

Since it was a fall wedding we chose deeper colors to match the season. We went with navy blue, maroon, and silver as an accent color. The style we chose for the wedding wasn’t anything specific, we just wanted a romantic feel to the evening.

What are your honeymoon plans?

We took a mini-honeymoon to Disney World during Thanksgiving break and we plan to take a longer honeymoon toward the end of 2019 to a remote beach location.

FUNbooth (Photo + Videobooth)

To make our guest feel special we had a lot of different activities for them like the FUNbooth, some of the dances, and even our guestbook which was jenga pieces that they could sign and leave us messages.
